Cortils Estate, Dalhem (Belgium)

Cortils Castle lies hidden in the center of a beautiful horse valley, close to the south of the cities Maastricht and Vise, both at the river Meuse. The castle has been established in the Carolingian age in 941, but the present state originates mostly from the 17th century. Although it might seem that time has been frozen on this unspoiled domain of 76 hectare, every essential means of comfort is arranged in the castle. Furthermore a cultural rebirth of the estate, which will preserve its pure identity, has been planned.

A calling

In our present time, in which confusion and chaos seem to be growing, Cortils offers an essential tranquility, from which our guests receive a possibility to find themselves again, to get inspired, to obtain and to spread knowledge.
It gladly opens its gates for anyone who wishes to contribute to this new cultural evolvement.
Beside this the renting of guest suites for those who are fond of tranquility and nature remains possible. 

The castle is situated in a stream valley. The access way of half a kilometer is already an experience in itself. In summer around 40 horses graze the meadows against a décor of old woodland slopes. The tall castle, dating from 1616, towers over the other extended buildings. It seems to have settled down in the valley, but once standing on the terras at the back one can see the lake, surrounded by ancient oaks and beech trees, on a much lower level. A little bit higher lies the walled in garden, which is not accessible for guests. The adjacent tennis court awaits the guests invitingly, behind it the workshop space, which can be rent separately.

Surrounding the forecourt –the Cortil– on one side the former orangerie and the guest residence can be found. On the other side the coach-house is situated, which will be restored in order to accommodate a dining hall.

Like the way a growing tree whispers the sound of softly murmuring leaves, the way a stream makes the flowing water sing, Cortils makes itself heard.
